40 years of Snappy!

This year marks a huge milestone for The Snappy Trust – 40 years of supporting children and young people with additional needs here in York.

Back in 1985, a small group of passionate parents and volunteers launched a local play scheme with one goal: to give children a space to feel included, supported, and free to be themselves. Four decades later, that same spirit continues to run through everything we do.

On Saturday 31st May 2025, we celebrated our 40th birthday – and we were absolutely blown away by the turnout. Families past and present, long-time supporters, volunteers, staff, and friends old and new all came together to mark the occasion. The love in the room was something we’ll never forget.

Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of working with some truly incredible people. Children and young people who inspire us with their resilience, energy and individuality. Families who have trusted us to walk alongside them through the highs and lows. Staff and volunteers who pour their hearts into making every session special. And companies, funders and community partners who continue to stand by us and help us grow.

We’re also deeply grateful to our brilliant Patron and amazing Ambassadors, who work tirelessly to raise awareness and funds on our behalf. Their support has helped us reach new audiences, secure vital resources, and keep inclusive, child-centred care at the heart of our city.

The impact of Snappy can’t be measured in numbers alone. It lives in the memories we’ve made, the friendships we’ve seen blossom, and the confidence we’ve helped build. Every child’s smile, every shared story, every moment of belonging – those are the things that matter most.

To everyone who’s been part of our journey – thank you. Whether you’ve donated, fundraised, volunteered, or simply championed our work – you’ve helped shape who we are and what we stand for.

As we look to the future, we remain full of energy and ambition. There’s more work to do, more families to support, and many more memories still to make. But for now, we pause to celebrate – and to say thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
