On 19 October 2025, Andrew completed his first full marathon in support of The Snappy Trust, raising an incredible £1,100 on JustGiving, more than 220% of his original fundraising target. Behind the miles was a story rooted in family, resilience and a strong connection to our work.

Andrew has been running for some time, with the long-term aim of taking on a marathon. This one mattered for reasons beyond the challenge itself. It was a way to mark his family’s journey and to raise funds that support children and young people with disabilities through Snappy.
Andrew, and his wife Emma, welcomed their first child, Skyla, in 2015. After a normal pregnancy and birth, they began life as parents with all the expectations that brings. As Skyla grew, it became clear that she was not developing in the expected way, particularly with her speech. At three years old, Skyla was diagnosed with level 3 autism.
Skyla is now ten years old. Her speech remains limited and she receives ongoing support through school and at home. Family life can be challenging, but Andrew describes it as living life “the Skyla way”. Different, sometimes demanding, but shaped by care, patience and determination.

Andrew said: "I have worked with Snappy directly through my work and Skyla has also engaged in some of their sessions. They are inspirational and provide excellent experiences and activities for children and young people like Skyla but also with other extensive disabilities.... I can think of no better charity to raise for with this personal journey."
This year marks Snappy’s 40th anniversary, making Andrew’s fundraising effort especially meaningful to us.
We are deeply grateful to Andrew for choosing to support Snappy and for the commitment it took to complete his first marathon. His fundraising helps us continue delivering activities, support and opportunities for children and young people with disabilities across York.
Thank you, Andrew, for helping us keep that work going.
